Susan Stone Photography specializes in non-traditional black and white, toned and tinted art photography featuring children and pets. Susan's outdoor studio offers manicured lawns, mature trees, and split rail fencing. This makes a beautiful and natural setting for your photo session. In addition, a small park and lake that work well for early morning or late afternoon sessions are nearby. An indoor studio with a painted canvas backdrop can accommodate babies, small groups of children or pets. Susan's Background Susan fell in love with photography in 1992 with the birth of her son. "I loved capturing my son's changing personality on film. My favorite pictures were always the ones where I captured an emotion or a glimps of his emerging personality." She took her passion a step further and studied photography and darkroom developing at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts. She then enrolled in a year-long program to learn about the technical aspects of photography. Susan continues to take workshops and attend seminars on everything form lighting to printing. She stays current with the latest trends and advancement in the photography industry. Her earliest works, hand developed black and white and hand-tinted prints, were given as gifts to friends and family. From these prints a network of referrals formed and Susan Stone Photography opened for business. The Digital Era "As a black and white 'film' photographer for many years, I resisted the move to digital until I felt I was able to provide my clients with a quality product that offered advantages over film. The time is here. With digital photography the creative possibilities are endless and the quality is superb. Best of all, removing last week's cuts and scrapes can be done quickly in Photoshop, so there isn't the need to reschedule a photo session. Artistic touches can be added to an image to enhance the mood of the portrait. I have some great art and watercolor papers that I use when I want a modern contemporary look. When spot tinting is done in the computer, the image can then be reproduced for greeting cards or gift prints for family members. But remember, even with all these portrait choices - black and white, sepia toning, spot-tinting, etc., your original 'negative' is in color, so you can always order color prints as well."
